Readability. Ad and clutter free reading

by Fernando on February 9, 2010

Thanks to ALT1040 if found Readability. If you spend a lot of time reading on the internet then this is something you must try. You just need to drag a bookmarklet to your browser’s bookmarks bar and that’s it; clutter and ad free reading. After configuring font style. size and text width you are good to go. Any time that you want to read news, blogs, ebooks or whatever all you need to do is click the bookmark on your bar and all you’ll see on the screen is what you want to read. No more ads flashing your retinas or design clutter. Just the text and three translucent buttons on the top left: print, email and return to original page.

As a publisher I wondered if using Readability may slash blogs and websites’ revenue (ads), engagement (comments), traffic, or conversions (subscriptions) since after reading what you were reading nothing stops you from jumping to a new page or closing the tab. After using it for some time I realized that most of the time I was going back to the original page to comment or keep browsing. Having no distractions probably makes you focus more on the text and less in the context.

Give it a shot and if you want, let me know what you think.
