MRSA is a bacteria that breeds in hospitals, nursing homes and residential treatment facilities. Every year 880.000 people in the US become infected and 5% of them die -between 20,000  - 40,000-. Per year, MRSA infections generate losses for $8 billion US dollars to both the private sector and government. Between 1993 and 2002 the cases of MRSA have risen %2300.  Sources here and here.

Fortunately, a  group of biotechnology researchers created a paint by mixing together carbon nanotubes with lysostaphin, an enzyme that breaches cell walls and kills the MRSA bacteria.  Read the full article at io9
