I just came across Coursera, a social entrepreneurship company that has partnered with the top universities in the world to offer courses online for anyone to take, for free.

Say again?

Yes, courses from the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, etc… for FREE.

At this point I shouldn’t add anything else but I bet you have some questions such as:

What’s the catch?

There’s no catch. The Universities that came together to create coursera have spent more than 50 milllion U$D to get this going.

Do I get credits?

No; and neither you become alumni of thes University. You still get a certificate upon completion of the course (note that some have attendance requirements and you are tested throughout or at the end of the course).

What courses does Coursera have?

Even though this is pretty new, there’s an interesting menu of courses in a wide range of topicsspanning the Humanities, Medicine, Biology, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Business, Computer Science, and many others; so I’m pretty sure you’ll find something that suits your palate.

Great short courses are offered in this website. Most of them are related to medical profession, something in demand today. I am planning to study computer related course that can improve my computer skills. Maybe I could try programming or the security thing.

Courses online are somehow really interesting! It’s no doubt many people today prefer getting courses online.
