Hi everyone,
Until last week, Disqus was my comments platform of choice. Disqus is good looking, it has a mild social orientation but it’s just another commenting system… you leave comment, I reply to comment, he replies to comment; done deal. Nothing to fall in love for.
I’ve been testing Commentluv for the past week and today I decided to purchase Commentluv Premium. Like that, I’m switching sides… done, switched. That’s how long it took me to ditch Disqus and Install CommentLuv. I don’t miss Disqus, I have no withdrawal symptoms, no comments were lost… all is good.
When I signed up for the early birds list, I hoped the price was gonna be around the $20s. I kind of reconsidered adding “the item to the cart” for a minute. But in the end, I had to acknowledge that this plug-in is a nifty bunch of code. Well worth the $47. Would I have bought it for twice as much? I’d say not for now, specially since the alternatives are not that bad and Commentluv (minus Premium features) is still a very nice option. ABSOLUTELY and without a doubt.
Here’s the best part: if you blog, these are some of the perks you get by just commenting on this blog:
- A link to your last post to send traffic your way
- If you make more than 3 comments, you also get to choose from your last 10 posts (10 posts become default on all other CommentLuv blogs)
- Registering, +1, liking or RT will let you pick from your last 10 posts, and your link becomes dofollow
From September 2008 to September 2011, the blog had received 400 comments. During October 2011 -when I installed Commentluv- the blog received 200 comments. Do the math! The term exponential growth falls short to describe what this plugin has done to my blog.
The second one is that Commentluv premium has extras that you can download such as the Commentluvers widget, which features top commenters on your blog’s sidebar, giving your readers some extra exposure and link love.

I’m just playing around with CommentLuv myself having bought the premium version. A lot of the settings seem quite complex – but overall it’s worked like a dream without too much fiddling about.

Yup, it takes a while to customize it the way you like it but once it’s up and running it works like a charm. Andy (developer) is pretty on top of support stuff as well

I think one important feature you have failed to mention is that you get five posts of your choosing that you can add to the list, which will be very beneficial when building back links for certain old posts.

Fernando, I find the plug-in really powerful. Its 8-in-1 and its a super plug-in that supports both the blogger/webmaster and reader. In addition, it adds exposure to both party. This is really a win-win solution.

Hey Cris.
Indeed, it’s a win-win for both webmaster and reader. And once the reader becomes engaged in a blog, it becomes the ultimate weapon to drive traffic and optimize his/her deep linking SEO if used at the right places.

Actually my blog commenluv also been using the plugin with the free version and I admit this plugin has great benefits in developing a beautiful blog and its optimization. I was moved to find much information about this plugin as a reference to the use of a premium version. Thanks for the reviews that add to product knowledge.

I have to say I went from Disqus to Livefyre and saw my comments plummet. I then went to WP basic comments and added CommentLuv and was SO much happier (and I got more comments!!!
I also use CommentLuv Premium and it rocks …. agree 110% with what you’ve said!

I really have one question. I understand the benefits to your blogging from this plugin, but my site was developed by a friend for free, so I’m not sure how to make the plugin work for me.
However, most importantly, have you seen more engagement with your readers after installing this plugin?
Twitter: ftarnogol
November 28, 2011 at 4:03 pm
Hey Pete,
Good couple of questions.
Here’s my take:
The answer to your second question is “definitely YES”. Engagement has soared since I installed the plugin -mail me if you want and I can send you some of my metrics-.
Moreover, I haven’t seen any bloggers saying that their engagement decreased or didn’t change after switching to Commentluv from other platforms.
I have used WP comments and Disqus, and as soon as I started using Commentluv I started to see results. I got the Premium version one week after installing the free one.
Engagement not only increased with readers, but with other bloggers as well. I’ve gained a few blogger “friends” recently thanks to this plugin. IMHO, since the plugin is relatively new, the blogger community that uses it is still not massive, which leads to a community sense among those who have started using it. Also think that bloggers who pay for stuff usually have an at least mildly successful blog, so they usually play 1 or 2 leagues above your own (my case).
With regards to your first question, I would say that it depends on your long term goals. I blogged for a few years without even intending to monetize my site, thus, I had no intention of spending money since I could run the blog for free.
When I made the move and started monetizing -and seeing a few bucks pouring in- I decided to start re-investing my earnings onto the blog. So every dollar I spend comes from the blog instead of my wallet, except for a few exceptions.
I’d say that it all goes down to your long term goals and allotted budget.
If you plan to monetize your blog in the future, or if you plan to stick with your blog for the long run, then I’d say go for it, specially since after the promotion is over the price of the plugin will skyrocket (I’d even think about it a few times before spending $100+ on a plugin or software given my current earnings). Don’t get me wrong, the plugin is worth the money, it’s just that my budget would make me procrastinate the decision until I earn more money.
Let me know if this clears your doubts, and you can always email me for more specific info.
Best,
F.-

Hi Fernando,
I truly believe CLUV premium is the best plugin and a must for every blogger. It does so much than juts allowing you to comment with link, it does the job of 7 other plugins and that alone makes it worth. Not to mention the awesome support of Andy who is always there to help with any problem.

I just added a feature request in the forums: the ability to give thumbs up/down or +1 to comments… I’d love to have that addition to CLUVP
