Blog Update: Restyling, Refocus, New Guest Posting Guidelines

Every year, we assess our progress and define our goals looking forward to the next one.

In 2011, our focus was to increase three of our KPIs (Key Performance Indicators): content volume, reader engagement and inbound traffic. I’m glad to announce that we’ve succeeded in all three areas.

- Traffic increased 150% to over 6.000 monthly visitors and 20.000 page views per month.

- We went from 1-2 weekly posts to 3+.

- Comments increased 400%, mostly thanks to Commentluv and the traffic boost.

This FY, our aim will be placed on Content Quality.

Despite these successes, it wasn’t all roses. Since volume does not equal quality, in some cases, the quality of guest posts has not been up to the standards that we would like. Thus, we have revised our Guest Posting Guidelines to increase content quality and deter those writers who are just looking for a link back to their site without contributing valuable information.

We will continue to host sponsored posts -to pay the bills- but content will still need to pass editorial review.

Last but not least, we’ve slightly redesigned our home page.

Finishing a rebranding process that started 1 year ago, my name has been slowly receding from the design and FT Careers has now taken the font seat to reflect the multi-author nature of the blog. I’ve started blogging outside of the niche at my personal blog.

Posts now appear in a more compact form to allow you to better scroll through posts on the frontpage and decrease page load time by using smaller images.

We hope these changes are of your liking.

As usual, your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Best,

Fernando

Very impressive with how you manage your site. While most guest posts are just looking for a way to generate quality back links, they should also realize to give back the same level of quality they needed. I know not all are capable of this because people are sometimes lazy ( no offense ).
